Before its release in April 2014, Jim Blalock of WETS FM, the East Tennessee State University NPR affiliate, interviewed producer Jane Hillhouse and writer/director Stephen Newton about their forthcoming documentary, Outcasts: Surviving the Culture of Rejection a feature length film that asks the question: Why does the US incarcerate more people than any other country in the world?

"Outcasts" explores the reasons criminal justice reform is slow, and how high recidivism rates destroy families and rural communities. The feature length documentary was aired in prime time on East Tennessee PBS after its premiere at Northeast State College in 2014.
